Before mid-2003, "Seller" and "Affiliate" are the hottest position for the internet business participants. Right now it changes a little bit.
It seems that it is easier to start an internet business with the role "publisher".
To be a seller or affiliate, basically you need to focus on 1 or 2 niche when you start. Then you research product ideas, prepare content, build a list...etc. Obviously it is not easy for beginners.
To be a publisher, it is easier to start if you choose Adsense as your Advertiser. At least you don't need to research product ideas. You don't need to focus on 1-2 niches coz you can use millions keywords to diversify the sources of traffic and advertising revenue. :-).
Once you are an Adsense publisher, Google will send a spider to crawl your website content and study the potential advertisement for your website! How great it is...
Publishing Business - It is the hottest trend for internet business.
I don't need to predict. It is obviously a big and new trend.
You can make big or small in this publishing business. It depends on how you understand and operate this business.
The value of publisher is same as seller or affiliate. It is non-sense to say it is easier to be a good publisher than seller or affilaite. It depends on what your objective is.
Even if my company we diversify our incomes from selling, affiliate marketing and publishing, instead of just focusing on Adsense or YPN publishing. It is real healthy business model.

It's funny to look back the past earning data from different publishing programs like Adsense or YPN.
I want to take a look at Yahoo Publisher Program in this post coz only few people will work on this program.....
It is a heavy workload to evaluate all earning data. In this post, I will look at the earning of November 2005 when I have just joined this program.
I remembered that I haven't generated a lot of impression (less than 20,000 per day) in the 1st month. However, the cost per click was very high even if the CTR ratio was low....more details..
Last week I went to Brisbane to have fun with Peter Drew and Patric Chan.
I was very lucky to have dinner with Mrs. Drew (Pete's Mom) who is the oldest Adsense publisher (she is 64 now) I ever know.

Is she doing great? Obviously, she is not a programmer or SEO expert. She just follows our strategy, use the software like Brainstorm Generator and Viral Instigator to build sites every day. She showed me her earning from last June to Dec......
Hmmmm.....from the earning, I see she made from 0 to around $200 per day within 2 months.....it was surely good for a retired woman.
However, her earning started to drop since last Jan.........
WHY?..It is because Mrs. Drew adopted a poor child and quitted this business at the same time. How nice she is.......
As you know, if you stop to build site for 1 week, you will find the earning will drop quickly. Like Yahoo, it indexes pages so fast..so...new pages will be on the top of yours within a very short period. Like Mrs. Drew, she stopped to build site nearly for 6 months, most likely her Adsense earning will drop a lot (but may not be zero).
What did I learn from Mrs. Drew: 1. Anyone (even you are 60) can start Adsense publishing business. 2. Adsense publishing is a teachable subject. 3. 5-figure income from Adsense is achievable.
