The Traffic Manuscript 2

Keyword Anywhere is down due to the data problem of Overture. However, it cannot kill the software. Actually, I didn't plan to add the new formula to the software coz I thought the timing was not ok.

Now I must change my mind.

My programmers are working hard to upgrade the software. Despite of this upgrade is good enough for all current users, I want to do one more thing for them...it's because I really feel they are supporting us...

This week I write an ebook. I haven't written any new ebook for 2 years. Traffic Manuscript is not written by me. It was written by my private student Michael Shang according to my speech in Tokyo.

Here's the preface of the new book...let's call it "Traffic Manuscript II".

This report is written for my dearest users of Keyword Anywhere, my wife Piano Chen and my son Issac Hui.

It is Thursday (13 September 2007). I never forget this date.

We found the data problem from Overture Keyword Suggestion Tool during the moment of my wife was going to deliver the baby. On the same day, I would give a charity teleseminar in Singapore.

If you were me, what you would do?

When I’m writing this report, we have brought the baby (my son) to the home. He is sleeping very well…very peaceful.

I sit down and open the laptop, write down my experience in keyword research for SEM (search engine marketing).

I haven’t written any ebook or report for 2 years. Traffic Manuscript was written by my
private student Michael Shang and my wife Piano Chen, according to my speech in Tokyo, Japan in December 2006. Most of the time I speak and they write.

Up to now, there are 2 reports written by me. The first one was the user report of RSStoBlog developed by Michelle Timothy in 2005. Another was the user report of Brainstorm Generator in 2005 again.

Traffic Manuscript II is the 3rd one.

I try to make this report simple.

From this report, you will learn:

1. Rethink your search engine marketing strategies
2. Rethink your website business models

I believe this document can add value to your business, for sure.

For this ebook (74 pages), I am not going to sell it. Indeed, I will give it to all my customers of Keyword Anywhere and Traffic Manuscript. They deserve to get it.
In this report, I write down a lot of my traffic generation and site building strategies that I haven't disclosed yet. The draft of this book is finished. Now it is under editing. I hope we will send it out on Saturday or next Monday.

Keyword Anywhere is not for you if.........
Tuesday, September 11, 2007
I don't like my invention is used by someone who doesn't have the global vision.

Personally, I recommend intermediate and advanced web publishers to use Keyword Anywhere (KA). They are the group who can best use and get the most from this "toy".

As an inventor, I prefer to sell Keyword Anywhere to the right users, rather than the users without vision.

If you think Keyword Anywhere is not right for you, please don't buy it. It wastes your money and effort.

I believe the current users of KA who are aggressive to grow their business to global level, instead of playing at English market alone. It's always good to have a group of users who have similar mindset like us.

Keyword Anywhere - it's not just a keyword research tool!
Take a look below, it's a post relating to a software called Keyword Anywhere.

My friend asked me....Is it just another keyword research tool?

Indeed, it is not. I don't need a normal keyword research software, especially I am the guy who is always looking at the opportunities from different markets. I need a smarter software.

Keyword Anywhere is a toy which helps me to explore opportunities from different markets.

Market: English is one market. Keyword Anywhere looks at 10 markets.

Keyword Anywhere explores a group of keywords which have huge "traffic" potential. It can help us to dominate in the foreign market easily, especially if you know how to play SEO properly.

1.7 Million Unique Visitors Last 30 Days

We all know keyword plays the most important role in search engine marketing. Unlike English market, foreign market is not competitive. It's damn easy to go to there and make some profits.

I'm not sure Keyword Anywhere is right for you. However, I have employed this strategies since 2005. Maybe I am the only one to do that......that's why there is always a difference between you and me.

The Next Traffic Joint Venture
Sunday, August 12, 2007
Today I got an email from Joel Comm about an interesting traffic generation program.

I rarely join such program because most of them don't work very well, and their technologies are very outdated.

However, this time I look closer...and I like it.

This program is not available for public at this moment. Only individual invitation are ok.

With the help of Joel, I sign up. I think it is worthwhile.

Actually I get the invitation link, and ask my friends to take a look.

My blog is not a high traffic site, and indeed I don't want it to be. Most of the readers here are my closed friends or I met them before in the seminars or workshops. They are the real friends who understand me.

Since you are my friend, I will share this link to you supposed you are interested.

I cannot send any email about this program to my list until August 22 (program launch)

Website Features for Community Building
Saturday, July 14, 2007
To build a good community inside the website, we cannot rely on a single feature.

What does it mean?

We know a web community can bring sustainable growth of website traffic. It's essential for the long term development of any website. It's also the value of your domain.

Indeed, some web publishers misunderstand that they MUST use a "FORUM" to build a community. Forum is one of the great web features for community building. Nobody can challenge.

Actually, a single website can have more than 1 feature for community building. Take a look at Yahoo, this company offers "Answers", "Messenger", "Personals", "Groups"..etc. Yahoo also acquired Del.icio.us and MyBlogLog for the further development of its internal community.

Yahoo is still ranked No.1 website according to the traffic volume on the earth. Maybe you like Google more than Yahoo, it's the fact that the traffic volume of Yahoo is the highest one.

If you have a forum and want to grow it bigger, definitely you can ask for a help from my friend Ryan Chua.

According to my experience, a forum can help and do a great job in traffic stablization. However, the speed of community formation by a forum may not be as fast as the other web features.

For me, I will use more than 1 (mostly 3 to 4) web features to build a big community for a single domain. They are integrated and produce 1+1 = 3 effect.

Like my Chinese project, I use an in-house web script and combine it with the forum, the traffic grows 300% faster than using a forum alone. Unlike the forum, I don't need to take care of the admin work of the community inside the in-house web script because it is a software for the people to interact for wide range of the topics.

It's like you open 2 doors to allow the visitors to come to your home. It's always faster, right?

I suggest you to use different web scripts to build a community instead of relying on a forum alone. You need to face the fact that not many people love to stay at the forum. And a forum is not the only way for community building on the internet.

Anyway coin has 2 sides. Forum has its own value.

Traffic Generation
Friday, July 13, 2007
I bet traffic generation is the most interesting subject you want to listen. Indeed, it's the most sensitive topic, too.

Traffic is always in dynamic status. It's the flow of human beings. It's not just a mouse click.

Different business models need different traffic generation strategies. There is no sure-fire strategy for all businesses.

To find people to visit your website, it can be a free or paid action. Good traffic generation method is a cost-effective way to bring visitors to your website. Instead of using Pay-Per-Click or search engine optimization strategies, the return (net result) is more important than the nature of strategies.

Definitely I use many strategies. I never rely on ONE strategies because I have several business models in my hand.

I try not to use the term "generation" for the whole picture of traffic. "Generation" is a good term to describe the process of "external" traffic management process, but it is not the whole picture of the internet business.

The mechanism of traffic management is:

New Visitor > Website > Return to the Website

Traffic generation is an accumulation process. We have external and internal traffic strategies to manage the traffic. We cannot rely on either one to sustain our business.

Philosophy of Traffic:

It's my experience after managing over billions of unique visitors across my website in these 7 years. I cannot say my approach is an answer. In fact, the philosophy is based on experience.

1. Direct Access
2. Referral Traffic

Referral Traffic

I want to talk about "Referral Traffic" first. It's because most webmasters believe "referral traffic" is almost equal to "everything".

Referral traffic means the other websites (or another online media) refer visitors to the one of yours. Your referral can be search engine, blog, directories, forum..etc.

You can generate referral traffic by free or paid methods.

1. Search Engines: you can generate free traffic by using SEO methods or paid traffic by joining the advertising programs like Google Adwords or Yahoo Overture.

2. Blog & Forum: These websites are more community style. It's like friend visiting the other friends' website. E.g. Mybloglog. People see your pic and are interested to visit your website. People visit your site because of "YOU" instead of your website.

3. Others: It's as simple as a webmaster puts your website URL on his site with or without introduction.

The common characteristic of referral traffic is: the visitors go to your website from another by clicking the "hyperlink".

We also classify referral traffic generation as the external traffic management. It can bring new and old visitors to a website. "New" blood is focused.

Direct Access

It's what we talk about "internal traffic management".

For the process of traffic management, you know it is a process of accumulation.

From the 100 to 10000 unique visitors, how many of them repeat to come to your website?

Direct access is the most stable and reliable traffic source. For a new website, it is quite impossible to have a good direct traffic. You need to bring people by using referral traffic strategies, then provide the content, tools to keep people returning to your website.

To keep people come back, we have many strategies like:

1. Direct bookmark

2. Easy to remember domain name (it's your brand, the most valuable asset of a website)

3. More valuable contents and web tools (it's why people come to your website), and think about their updated frequency.

4. Email
....etc.

It's the general picture you should know as a webmaster.

You can learn more ideas about traffic generation strategies by:

I use this traffic strategy
Thursday, July 05, 2007
I bet you understand this fact.

1. If traffic is the oxygen of your online business, then forums is the blood which carries your oxygen.

2. Only websites which facilitate communication and interaction will eventually be awarded by sustainable high traffic volume. (Don’t forget that the Internet was created to enhance communication.)

Currently, there is no similar material available in the market. So basically you cannot find a reference book to enhance your knowledge and experience.

I am lucky. I know a guy called Ryan Chua who manages the biggest online “BMW” forum in Asia. He shared a lot of experiences with me about community traffic management.

If you can master a forum, you are the KING of community traffic.

I urged Ryan to write down all his tips and share it with our friends. This is the book I must have (and you must have, too).

Last week, I bought Ryan’s book for all my private students. Each student got one copy. I paid Ryan thousands dollars personally, and invited him to be the instructor of my private coaching program.

It’s the first time I pay for an ebook.

If you are interested, you can download this book here.

Google Japan is a more popular search engine than Yahoo Japan
Thursday, June 21, 2007
I am not going to say Google Japan is the most popular website in Japan. Indeed, Yahoo Japan is still No.1.

However, when we talk about "search engine", I guess Google Japan is the most popular one. Why?

I go to Alexa and check several statistics.

Yahoo Japan:
% of Global Internet Users: 2.54%
% of the traffic from Japan: 91.5%
% of the visitors going to use "search engine" of Yahoo Japan: 16%

So I want to know...the % of Japan internet users who are using the search engine of Yahoo Japan:

>>> 2.54% x 91.5% x 16% = 0.37%

How about Google Japan:
% of Global Internet Users: 1.08%
% of the traffic from Japan: 94.3%
% of the visitors going to use "search engine" of Google Japan: 89%

The % of Japan internet users who are using the search engine of Google Japan:

>>> 1.08% x 94.3% x 89% = 0.90%

So we can estimate that Google Japan has around 2.4 times users more than Yahoo Japan. Definitely I cannot say this figure is 100% accurate. It's because Alexa is not an accurate meter to measure traffic. Anyway, we treat this figure as a good reference.

Singapore Search Engine Marketing
Before you are going to do Singapore search engine marketing, please consider which search engine you focus:

1. Yahoo

2. Google

3. Live

From Alexa, we can see Yahoo.com is the No.1 website in Singapore. Note: Alexa may not be 100% accurate. We treat it as a good reference only.

MSN is No.3 and Google ranks No. 5 and 8 respectively.

Does it mean Yahoo is the no.1 search engine in Singapore?

Definitely not. Take a look at the traffic composition of Yahoo.com below:

This means, only 1 out of 10 people will use the Yahoo search engine. However, you can imagine...if 10 people go to Google, you can find 8 out of 10 people are using the Google search engine.

So Google is a more popular search engine in Singapore?

To get a more accurate answer, we need to do a more complicated calculation. For Yahoo.com, there are around 25.58% of the global internet population reach this website. 2% of the traffic composition is from Singapore. And 11% of the visitors use the Yahoo search engine. So.... The total users of Yahoo search engine in Singapore according to the global reach level = 25.58% x 2% x 11% >>>> 0.056%

How about Google?

The total users of Google search engine in Singapore according to the Global reach level (we use Google Singapore to calculate only) = 0.25% x 0.91% >>>> 0.2275%

Therefore, we can estimate the no. of search engine user of Google.com.sg is at least 4 times more than Yahoo.com in Singapore. Remember that I don't count the traffic to Google.com. So we strongly believe that the figure is underestimated. Since we know Google is more popular in Singapore by using mathematical calculation, so it is good to focus on Google to do your Singapore search engine marketing.

SEO is not perfect
Friday, June 15, 2007
Please don't misunderstand the subject. SEO is useful, but it's not a perfect traffic management strategy.

For the website traffic, we consider 3 major factors:
1. Direct
2. Referral
3. Search Engine

I suppose, all educated webmasters, they know the most stable and reliable traffic source must be from direct access. Nobody can challenge this concept.

Direct traffic is based on your "brand". Is your domain name easy to remember? Does the content attract the visitors to return to your website?

Referral traffic is good and reliable. Youtube, this site becomes hot due to referral traffic. When youtube started the business, it was not well indexed in Google nor Yahoo. However, many people shared the videos by using Youtube, posting to the website or by using instant messengers. Yep..you see how great Youtube is today.

SEO can bring new visitors to your website. If your domain name is difficult to remember, people may type some words to search engine, and try to reach you there. Anyway, human beings is lazy, it is default nature.

SEO is the least stable one. It's because, the ranking formula is not controled by you. Your site can rank No.1 today but No.10 tomorrow. You are not Google or Yahoo, you cannot guarantee the performance, right?

SEO is useful to bring new visitors to your website, your site content can help to convert the "visitors" to become "loyal readers", to become direct traffic.

SEO is funny if you treat it like a game.

SEO - How do you do on-site optimization?
Tuesday, June 12, 2007
On-site optimization - there is a lot of rumor for this subject.

I know a lot of people always check the keyword density of the web page. 15%...20%....etc.

When I heard about this subject many years ago, I really checked the density every time I created a web page.

I was bored...very bored. So I gave it up. I prefered not to check any keyword density. Just place the keywords to the right position as far as I knew. I thought it's good enough.

I didn't need my site to rank No.1. 1st page is good enough. I prefer to put my effort to diversify the keywords into different subject, so I can maximize the exposure to different niches, or people.

SEO is good if it just consumes you 5% of time during web page creation. I prefer to put more effort in content creation more than checking the keyword density...

You know...your readers never take care of this subject, right?

Front-end: PageRank, Back-end: Duplicate Content
Monday, May 14, 2007
Many newbies recently ask me, "What is the purpose of PageRank? Why is it important?"

Let's see how Google describes PageRank:
"PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important"."

In other words, a PageRank results from a "ballot" among all the other pages on the World Wide Web about how important a page is. A hyperlink to a page counts as a vote of support. The PageRank of a page is defined recursively and depends on the number and PageRank metric of all pages that link to it ("incoming links"). A page that is linked to by many pages with high PageRank receives a high rank itself. If there are no links to a web page there is no support for that page.

Numerous academic papers concerning PageRank have been published since Page and Brin's original paper. In practice, the PageRank concept has proven to be vulnerable to manipulation, and extensive research has been devoted to identifying falsely inflated PageRank and ways to ignore links from documents with falsely inflated PageRank.
_________________________________________________________

What do you feel about this article? Looks cool, right? Actually we simply dragged this post from another site so Google regards this as duplicate content.

Many people worry that Google would delist sites with duplicate content but indeed this is redundant worry. Think in this way: when there is a good blog post, you may read the same post in many other people's blog, right? When there is a hot news, you may read the same news article in many different sites, right? Actually the webmasters of these sites are not AdSense player but they simply want to share some great topic with the public. This is normal human behaviour and Google does not act against normal human

What Google really delists are those junk sites built by junk page generator which leaves footprint for the search engine crawler to find out. Of course, we do not suggest 100% duplicate content. We would suggest people to do small modification at the beginning and at the end, maybe write some comments about the post dragged from other people's websites. The advantage is that you do not have to think of 100% original content while the disadvantage the efficiency in building site would be greatly lower as you do not use software to automate the process.

7-Eleven or Diamond Shop
Wednesday, May 02, 2007
Your website is 7-Eleven (convinent store) or a diamond shop?

Definitely, your question is, which one brings me more money, right?

By common sense, 7-Eleven should have more traffic than a diamond shop. It is because it offers more diversified products which can attract different people to buy e.g. drinks, fast food, snacks. For diamond shop, it offers diamond jewelary alone. You cannot expect the customers ask for coca-cola in the diamond shop, right?

Does it mean the owner of 7-Eleven makes more than the one of diamond shop? There's no answer.

The profit margin of a diamond shop owner can be 30-50%. You know, a normal diamond ring can be sold around $300-$500USD. A bottle of coca-cola is around $0.5USD.

So it's tough to say who can make more than either one. The diamond shop with less traffic may make money more than a convinent store.

Definitely, without traffic, both shop owners make ZERO profit.

Each niche has a maximum level. As a webmaster, you cannot expect to generate unlimited amount of traffic. Indeed, your job is to achieve market domination or saturation, that you can make the most from your niche, no matter you run a convinent store or diamond shop.

So we can find the formula like that:

7-Eleven: maximum traffic level x $0.5USD = maximum earning level
Diamond shop: maximum traffic level x $$300USD = maximum earning level

Once you achieve that maximum level, your next job is to split the model into 2. E.g. you have a dimond shop. You can open a new one in another location, OR sell gold jewelary. By diversifying your niche, you can attract another kind of people to come to the shop. The total traffic volume will be increased.
Where's my money...

The Death of Search Engine Spammer
Monday, April 30, 2007
The pure "Blackhat" strategy of site building dies, if not, it's close to be.

What is blackhat site building strategy?

The webmaster uses machinery ways to generate tons of web pages with basic SEO optimization factors. The machine is called web page generator.

What is internet?

The function of the internet is for communication. What did you do in the first time of internet connection? Get an email account or download instant messenger?

Yep. You want to talk to your friends via internet. It's communication.

After some time, web pages came to the world. People started to spread their messages by using the websites. From the webmaster to the visitor, it is "one-way" communication.

Later, the forum-kind or message board type websites came. People used this method to communicate with the others. Since you can talk to multi-users in one place, we called it as "multi-way" communication.

If your website can faciliate 'communication', most likely the traffic volume will not be bad.

Website controls your behaviour

How many times do you check email everyday? 2 or 3...
How many of you use Yahoo, Gmail or Hotmail?

The email message is on the website, the part of the content of the website. You expect new email (content) comes many times in one day. So you return to the websites few times a day. Similar idea works in the forum-type website.

Bingo! Your behaviour is controled by the website. You are the direct and return visitor.

That's why...that website traffic is very good.

Why does Blackhat Website die?

It's always good to generate tons of the traffic volume from the search engine. However, have you thought about how to bring the visitors back to your websites? Or just hit and run?

Generating tons of search engine traffic, people come and then go away...and go away forever.

Think about it....If a website doesn't have any loyal visitor, is it still a long term business?

Imagine, one day Google bans your website, then all your traffic disappears..Definitely you can build a new site everyday, generate tons of the pages every day.....

Right now, Google and Yahoo are super smart. They change the formula and filter out the blackhat websites.

If the visitor comes to your website without going to the search engine, then you are successful. People can come to your site by direct and referral access.

Indeed, search engine traffic is just a small portion of traffic source on the internet.

In February, there are around 10 billion queries to the search engines every month. As far as we know, 75% of the queries come to the top 1000 websites in the world. However, there are around 100 million websites right now.

This means, 99.9% website competes for this 25% query of search engine. WOW! How it is NOT cost effective!

There are still many ways to generate 1st time traffic for a new website. SEO for search engine traffic is good, but it's not everything.

Blackhat website violates the aim of internet?

Remember that internet is for communication. Blackhat website is always blocking the communication between the real communities on the internet.

We cannot say "Blackhat" is bad strategy, however it will be filtered out by this natural environment very soon. It's natural selection.

We're discussing this topic in our forum.

Healthy Traffic Composition of Your Website
Saturday, October 14, 2006
Traffic sources are very important to the health of a website. Basically, a healthy website should have this composition:
1. Direct Acess: 30-40%. It means the visitors come to your website by inputing the domain name to the browser and bookmark.
2. Referral Link: 30%. Other websites point to your site and send you traffic
3. Search Engine Traffic: 30%. The visitors come from the search engines like Google and Yahoo.

"1" is the most important component. It relates to your brand. More people are using this method to access your site, this means your brand is bigger.

Don't rely on SEO alone (it is good, but it is just one of the strategies). Black hat strategies (building websites and backlinks) rely on SEO. When search engine updates the listings and formula, most likely your website will suffer from the changes. Your listings may disappear.

Referral traffic is more reliable than SEO but less than "direct access". However, it may be out of your control because you cannot force the other webmasters to feature your domain on their websites.

Take a look at "return traffic". A healthy website should have at least 55% of return traffic within 48 hours. This means a 1 out of 2 visitors will come back to your site.

Study of "Local" Internet Marketing Strategies
Thursday, October 05, 2006
"Local" internet marketing is a new topic in this industry. It means we focus on local market in a city or country.

Our experimental project friendearth.com is our white rat. This project is going to generate the traffic from Asia. However, at the start, we target the traffic sources from Hong Kong and mainland China.

For the small business owners, not many of them can afford to expand their business into global scale...e.g. logistic costs, languages, manpower..etc. For example, how a sushi store owner can send a "fresh sushi" to your home when you live in U.S.?

Like Hong Kong, it is a very small city. General internet marketing strategy does not work. If your business is in Hong Kong, and plan to setup a shopping cart to sell something, this strategy may not work. It is because this city is too small and anyone can go out to buy their target stuff easily...(too many stores around them).

The case is also true in Tokyo and Singapore....and many small cities and countries.

This is the reason why we test how to combine online marketing model into an offline business. The role of your website is to generate traffic, pass the information to the surfers like "where is your company or store", "what kinds of the services you provide?", "price". Definitely it is good for them to leave their name, email and phone number to your site.

Returning Traffic
Monday, September 11, 2006
How many visitors do return to your website?

For our website ambatch.com, we have around 62% returning traffic. It means 6 out of 10 visitors coming to our site again and again.

62% is a ratio. When 100 visitors come to my website, I hope 62 will repeat to come again. The numbers of visitors will accumulate even if the ratio is the same.

When your returning traffic is nearly 70%, most likely your traffic volume is secure, and you can continue to invest more features on the site.

User driven social content network
Friday, July 28, 2006
This day is coming.

This domain "ambatch.com" will become an user driven social content network.

Maybe you've heard about I am working on an open source publishing project. Yes, this one is.

My definition of "open source" is different from the techies. It is not about the "code". Indeed, I am going to open the source of the "traffic" and "revenue", by using my SEO and traffic generation knowledge, we build a community and share the revenue together.

The system is under testing. However system is just a system. We need you to support this idea because it is a community project.

I hope we will launch the beta version in mid or late August.

To learn more details about this "open source" project, please go to our forum:

Forum Marketing Strategies

If we want someone or a visitor to perform an action, whether it’s helping us, checking out a product, a link, comment on a story or become an affliate, there must be an incentive for the person first.

In forum terms, if we want to leverage on a community, whether it’s ours or someone else’s, ask yourself how you can bring value first to that forum. Forum administrators are very nit-picky people, and their moderators can be very very strict with new links posted. ( If you want to advertise in a forum using a link in your signature, posting a new thread etc.)

If you are serious about placing a link in a forum which has many members on it, there are a few ways of guaranteeing success in your forum marketing campaign without having your account or threads deleted.

1. Read the rules & regulations first.
Don’t assume that just because a forum you participate a lot in has the same rules as the one you want to advertise in. Respect the forum rules and follow in accordance to what they state. If you are allowed only 1 link in your signature, follow that rule as much as you can. Never deviate from it.

2. Never start new threads.
If you are a new member to a forum, never ever start a new thread. Other senior members can smell a rat and if you’re looking to advertise, your new thread about your product or service will be deleted within seconds. Always build up your post counts organically by replying to existing threads. More often than not, these threads will not be deleted, and your single post has a higher chance of not being removed.

If you are impatient and just want to spam a forum with a link in a new thread, your 2 minutes of sign-up, email authentication as well as confirmation will be wasted with an adminstrator’s two mouse clicks. Would you rather spend 10 minutes to build permanent backlinks to your site? Or would you rather waste 30 “2 minutes” having your thread deleted within seconds? As well as your email account being banned..? Always start slow and build trust.

3. Post new threads…ONLY…
…IF your content is NEW and FRESH, and relevant to the forum. So what if i don’t know anything about a forum’s topic or theme (example: Goldfish forum)? Can i start a new thread discussing about the latest news about Gold Fish? Of course i can! Just use…

http://news.google.com and key in the keywords which are relevant to the forum’s theme or topic… Fresh, updated news and highly relevant as well. Post a snippet of the news in and provide a link to the source.

4. Make powerful friends.
Make friends with moderators and the administrators. Quote their replies and enjoy a good discussion with them. As soon as administrators and moderators find that you are a nice fellow to talk to online(because you’re always paying some attention to them) and can provide some good content from time to time, using their names within your post can make any link immune to deletion. Trust has to be built up over time and has to be done carefully. If you have any questions, always PM or email the forum administrators and clarify. Make them your friends and build a trusting relationship.

5. Bookmark your own threads.
Organise and bookmark your own threads, so you can easily return to it later and reply or update it (hopefully to another member and not yourself) Invite other members to provide suggestions, help or comments so this will bump up your thread while leveraging on existing members. Don’t do this too often during a week as it can be seen as spammy.

6. Don’t waste time!
It’s all too easy to waste your time posting, and then surfing around the forums..looking for new threads..reading other people’s threads etc…. STOP. If your primary purpose is to increase sales and exposure for your product / service, have a list of forums that you have registered in, log in, post 2-3 replies to the most popular threads, get out, and move onto the next forum. Don’t stop until you have finished all of your target forums within a specific time (e.g. 10 forums within half hour). However...Rules #1 to #5 have to be followed first.

By adopting a good healthy forum attitude, behaviour and habit, your product / service links can survive well and long within a community, instead of being thrashed within 2 minutes. Take the time to discover more about the community you want to be part of, and your patience will be rewarded many times over.

If you feel this post makes sense.. we would love to hear your comments in our Community Traffic Category. :-)
